DISPLAY DEVICE FOR MAP DATA

PURPOSE:To shift a picture to an adjacent mesh at a high speed by providing plural drawing memory parts in response to meshes and updating the most distant mesh with a desired mesh when the picture moves out of the mesh that is presently displayed. CONSTITUTION:When an indication is received from an indicating device 18 for shift of a display mesh or a picture, a drawing control processing part 13 obtains the number of a mesh to be displayed. In a quite new mesh mode the meshes are taken out of a map data base 19 in the number equal to the drawing memory areas 16 so that the indicated mesh is set a lower left position of the picture. In a shift mode the most distant mesh is disused and a new desired mesh is taken out. This desired mesh is stored in an idle place of the area 6 via control memories (A)14 and (B)15 and then displayed on a display 12 via a display processing part 11. In such a way, the shift of a picture to an adjacent mesh is displayed at a high speed.
