Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:In producing valine by hydrolyzing 5-isopropylhydantoin in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, to obtain the aimed compound economically advantageously, by using a specific amount of the alkali. CONSTITUTION:5-Isopropylhydantoin is hydrolyzed in the presence of at least 4 equivalents, preferably 5-6 equivalents of an alkali metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, etc., usually at normal pressure at the boiling point of the reaction solution, preferably 105-115 deg.C to give valine useful as an intermediate for foods, drugs, etc., in high yield even by the reaction at normal temperature.
