Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To improve the working efficiency of an automatic lathe by, in removing turnings on a lathe or the like, inserting an insert needle into an aggregate of turnings, and drawing out the aggregate of turnings through the insert needle when a cutting process has been completed, and dropping the turnings using a dropping tool from the insert needle. CONSTITUTION:For removing turnings 5 in cutting an engine valve 2, the engine valve 2 is gripped by a chuck 1, and air is fed into an air cylinder 11 at the same time when a cutting tool 3 begins cutting work to protrude a piston rod 11b, namely an insert needle 14, toward a neck 2b of the engine valve 2. The tip 14c of the insert needle 14 passes through an aggregate of the turnings 5 occurring continuously, and cause the turnings 5 to twine round itself. When the cutting work has been completed, the engine valve 2 is automatically released from the chuck 1 to drop on a chute. The piston rod is drawn at this time to make the insert needle 14c sink into a hole 13a of a dropping plate 13. The aggregate of the turnings of therefore pulled out of the insert needle 14 to drop.
