AUTOMOBILE BUMPER STRUCTURE

PURPOSE:To improve shock energy absorbing efficiency by forming a recessed part provided on the front face of a shock absorbing member in such a way that the sectional area of its longitudinal section in the longitudinal direction of body is gradually reduced from the center part to the outside in the width direction. CONSTITUTION:A recessed part 16 is provided on the front face of a shock absorbing member 14 formed with an urethane foam. The recessed part 16 is formed in such a way that the depth in the longitudinal direction of body and the width in the vertical direction of body are maximum nearly in the center part in the width direction of body. Further, the depth in the longitudinal direction of body and the width in the vertical direction of body are formed to be gradually reduced from the center part to the outside in the width direction of body. Also, the recessed part 16 is symmetrically formed at the center part over its whole width formed about 1/3 the whole width of the shock absorbing member 14. And, a bridge rib 20 which restrains the absorbing member 14 from spreading in the vertical direction is provided in the recessed part 16. Thereby, when a shock energy is generated in the front of the body, the difference in loads generated in each position of the shock absorbing member 14 can be made small improving absorbing efficiency.
