PASTE TYPE NICKEL POSITIVE ELECTRODE

PURPOSE:To obtain characteristics of high energy density, or high capacity of cadmium compounds, by using cadmium oxide having cadmium hydroxide layer at the surface. CONSTITUTION:A paste type positive electrode substance, which comprises mainly nickel hydroxide at least compounding with cadmium compounds, is filled in a conductive core body. In such a nickel positive electrode, cadmium oxide having cadmium hydroxide layer at the surface is used for cadmium compounds. Since the cadmium oxide particles are as fine as the particle size of 2 mum or less, the cadmium compound, which is compounded in a paste type active substance mainly comprising nickel hydroxide, adheres to the nickel hydroxide perticles covering thereon, thereby the effect on retardation of the swelling and improvement of the charging current intake performance can be remarkably displayed, even if the added amount of cadmium compound is small.
