JOINING METHOD FOR OPTICAL FIBER AND FERRULE BY OPTICAL CONNECTOR

PURPOSE:To join an optical fiber and a ferrule in a short time and to prevent temperature characteristics from deteriorating by polishing the front end surface of the optical fiber in a flame and fixing the tip part of the optical fiber and the ferrule by heat sealing. CONSTITUTION:The coating of an optical fiber cable 1 is removed to expose the optical fiber 2 in the center, and the tip part is cut so that a part of a specific length is left. Then the tip part 2b of the optical fiber 2 is run through the insertion hole 4 of the ferrule 3, the tip surface 2a of the optical fiber 2 is placed between electrodes 15 of an electric discharging device, and the tip surface 2a is polished by discharging sparks or by gas laser light. The discharging sparks or laser light is projected from beside the ferrule 3 after the end of the polishing of the tip surface 2a to weld and fix the optical fiber 2 and ferrule 3. Consequently, an adhesive curing and a polishing time are eliminated and a working time is shortened greatly; and no adhesive is used, so temperature characteristics of an optical fiber connector are improve and the reliability of a product is improved.
