Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To reduce the mechanical resonance frequency of a head system and to extend variable width by using address data in a reproduced signal specific for a digital VTR to obtain tracking error information. CONSTITUTION:When address data are extracted from reproduced data, address data with coincident phase can be obtained at the time of a just tracking state, phase-advanced address data can be obtained from a head Hb at the time of a phase shifted to the track Ta side and phase-delayed address data can be obtained at the time of a phase shifted to the track Tb side. Thereby, information corresponding to the shifted direction and distance of a tracking error can be obtained by comparing the phase of the address data by a comparator 23. The tracking error information is supplied to a tracking correction voltage generating circuit 24 to form a correction voltage following tracks Ta, Tb on a tape 4 and the correction voltage is supplied to a bimorph plate 3 through an adder 16 and an integration circuit 18. Consequently, the necessity of wobbling can be omitted, the mechanical resonance frequency of the head system can be reduced and the variable width can be expanded.
