Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To relieve the load of a calling system by returning an address with respect to a destination system in a form preferable to a calling system in response to the inquiry from the calling system. CONSTITUTION:When a calling system 3 gives an inquiry to the content of a directory 5 to communicate with a destination system 4C, the calling system 3 is connected to a directory service system 4B via a relay system 2. The system 4B discriminates an exchange network 1-m to which the calling system 3 belongs, indexes plural addresses (#1-#n) corresponding to the destination system 4C and informs an address of a preferable type to the calling system 3, e.g., the #m address.
