Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To increase the speed of a line by providing a side trimmer to an iron and steel line including a strip coil, shear, welding machine, pickling tank, etc. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam side trimmer 12 is provided behind a pickling tank 8 and a shear 10 is disposed behind said trimmer. The laser light from an oscillator 13 via reflection mirrors 14, 15, 16 is condensed by a lens 17 and is then irradiated to the end of a steel plate 18. Gaseous oxygen 21 is fed to nozzles 19 provided to a carriage 22 which can move forward and backward. The nozzles 19 of the trimmer 12 can be quickly moved on rails 23 by the carriage 22. The nozzles 19 are thus kept free from the force occurring in cutting resistance by such mechanism and therefore high speed cutting and quick shifting are made possible. The need for notching by a welding machine 3 is thus eliminated and the higher speed of the line is attained.
