Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To improve the contrast ratio and the productivity of the titled device by inserting a liquid crystal contg. a p-type dichroic dye between a pair of electrodes provided with three primary color filters and polarizers respectively, and by disposing the absorption axis in one of the polarizers so as to meet with the molecular long axis of the liquid crystal at right angles, and the absorption axis in the another one of the polarizers so as to be parallel to the molecular long axis of the liquid crystal respectively. CONSTITUTION:The electrodes 3 and 4 provided with the three primary color filters on the counter surfaces of the electrode substrates 1 and 2 respectively are formed, followed by rubbing polyimido resin films mounted on said electrodes respectively to form twisted nematic (TN) orientation films 6 and 7. Subsequently, the electrodes 3 and 4 are sealed with an adhesives 8 so as to meet with the rubbed directions of said electrodes at right angles with each other, thereby forming a liquid crystal cell. And then, the liquid crystal composition 9 which contains 0.5wt.% the p-type dichroic dye having the max. absorption rate near to a wavelength of 700nm is poured into said cell. Finally, the polarizers 10 are disposed on the outer surfaces of the substrates 1 and 2 respectively in such way that the absorption axis of one of the polarizers meet with the molecular long axis of the liquid crystal at right angles, and that of the another one of the polarizers is parallel to the molecular long axis of the liquid crystal. Thus, the TN type titled device having the high contrast ratio and the high productivity is obtd.
