Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:A benzylimidazole derivative shown by formula I [R is H or lower alkyl (to be replaced with OH); R is H,lower alkyl, phenyl, halogen or mercapto; T is H, lower alkyl or halogen; R is lower alkyl, halogen, OH, ethylenedioxymethyl, amino or nitro; R is H, OH or alkoxy (to be replaced with halogen or alkenyl); n is 1-3 with the proviso that a case wherein R is H or alkyl, R and R are H, R is H or OH and R is alkyl is omitted] or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:4-[2-(1,3-Dioxolan-2-yl)phenyl-hydroxy]methylimidazole. USE:A cerebral function improver, drug for alleviating amnesia or drug for alleviating senile dementia. PREPARATION:For example, a compound shown by formula II is reacted with a compound shown by formula III to give a compound shown by formula I wherein R is OH.
