Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prepare a conductive polymer which can be used as an organic conductor or semiconductor, or as a display element or also as a battery electrode material or an electromagnetic wave shielding material, by polymerizing specified isoindoles. CONSTITUTION:The title product is a polymer consisting of recurring units of a 1,3-(2-methyl)isoindolylene group of the formula as shown. This polymer is prepared by the electrolytic oxidation of 2-methylisoindole in the presence of a halide ion, e.g. tetraethylammonium bromide, in an aprotic polar solvent, e.g. acetonitrile. The polymer can be used as an organic conductor or semiconductor. Moreover, it is processed into a thin film on an ITO electrode to exhibit electrochromism and can be used also as a display element. Furthermore, it can be used also as a battery electrode material or an electromagnetic wave shielding material.
