Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic disk having high durability and reliability by forming a 1st inorg. oxide layer by a vapor deposition, sputtering or CVD method on a magnetic recording medium and forming the 2nd inorg. oxide layer by a soln. coating method on the 1st inorg. oxide layer thereby providing a coating layer on said medium. CONSTITUTION:The coating layer is provided on the magnetic recording medium by forming the 1st inorg. oxide layer by the vapor deposition, sputtering or CVD method on the magnetic recording medium and forming the 2nd inorg. oxide layer by the soln. coating method on the 1st inorg. oxide layer in the case of providing the magnetic recording medium on a nonmagnetic substrate and providing the coating layer on the magnetic recording medium. Namely, the magnetic disk has the 1st inorg. oxide layer 5 formed on, for example, a thin gamma-Fe2O3 film 3 and the 2nd inorg. oxide layer 6 formed on the 1st inorg. oxide layer 5. The coating layer formed in such a manner plays the role of protecting the magnetic recording medium. Faults arising from head crush are thereby decreased and the magnetic disk having high durability and reliability is obtd.
