PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC DISK

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic disk having high durability and reliability by forming a 1st SiO2 layer by a sputtering method on a magnetic recording medium, forming the 2nd SiO2 layer by a soln. coating method on the 1st SiO2 layer, thereby providing a coating layer on said medium. CONSTITUTION:The coating layer is provided on the magnetic recording medium by forming the 1st SiO2 layer by the sputtering method on the magnetic recording medium and forming the 2nd SiO2 layer by the soln. coating method on the 1st SiO2 in the case of providing the magnetic recording medium on a nonmagnetic base and providing the coating layer on said magnetic recording medium. Namely, the magnetic disk has the 1st SiO2 layer 5 formed on, for example, a thin gamma-Fe2O3 layer 3 by the sputtering method and the 2nd SiO2 layer 6 formed on the 1st SiO2 layer 5 by the soln. coating method. The coating layer formed in such a manner plays the role of protecting the magnetic recording medium. Faults arising from head crush are thereby decreased and the magnetic disk having high durability and reliability is obtd.
