Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a wear resistant material consisting of fine Si crystal particles by horizontally and continuously casting a molten aluminum alloy contg. Si as an essential alloy component in a highly cooled state and cutting the cast alloy to a required length, then machining the cut alloy. CONSTITUTION:The molten Al alloy 4 is conducted through the lower part of a tundish 2 directly to a water-cooled casting mold 6 disposed in a horizontal direction. The mold 6 is cooled by the cooling water 8 flowing in a cooling water chamber to cool and solidify the molten Al alloy 4. The cooling water 8 is then ejected from an ejection port 14 provided to the casting material outlet part of the mold 6 to further cool the plate-shaped casting material 10 which is then taken out in a horizontal direction by pinch rolls 12. THe stock 18 of a prescribed size cut by a cutter 16 is then machined and the wear resistant material consisting of the considerably fined eutectic Si grains is obtd.
