Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:Styryl compounds of formula I [wherein R1 is a monovalent org. residue; R2 is H, sulfoalkoxy, R3 is sulfoalkoxy, a radical of formula II (wherein R4, R5 are alkyl, sulfoalkyl, provided that at least one of R4 and R5 is sulfoalkyl); X is H, alkyl). EXAMPLE:Compound of formula III. USE:Light absorbing dyes which absorb undesirable light such as reflected light when they are used in a silver halide photographic material. PREPARATION:1-Hydroxyethyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone of formula IV in methanol is reacted with a sodium salt of 4-(N,N-beta-di-sulfoethyl)aminobenzaldehyde to produce the compound of formula III as a crystal.
