PAINTING APPARATUS

PURPOSE:To surely perform the opening operation of a door prior to a painting process, by applying paint with high brightness to the detection part of the door before detecting the groove for the window of the door of a car body. CONSTITUTION:A work such as a car body after electrodeposition painting is fed to an intermediate coat painting station in a state placed on a conveyor and paint having brightness higher than that of the paint subjected to electrodeposition painting is sprayed to the vicinity of a groove part detecting part from a nozzle at a predetermined position by a painting apparatus. When the work reached the next predetermined position of the feed line, a painting robot 7 operates according to teaching due to the program corresponding to the kind of the work and detects the groove part of a door at first on the basis of the quantity of reflected light of an optical sensor 9. Subsequently, a pin 10 is engaged with the groove part of the door through a flexible slit 7b to open the door and intermediate coating is applied to the inner surface of the door by the robot 7.
