COMPOSITION FOR RECTAL ADMINISTRATION OF CALCITONIN

PURPOSE:The titled composition containing a calcitonin as an active constituent and capric acid or a salt thereof. CONSTITUTION:A composition containing a calcitonin (natural type calcitonin or analogous peptide thereof; peptide having at least serum hypocalcemic action; eel calcitonin or salmon calcitonin) as an active constituent and capric acid or salt thereof alone or two or more thereof in combination as an adjuvant in an amount of 0.1-25%w/w, 0.5-10%w/w added thereto and useful for rectal administration of the calcitonin. Furthermore, the third component, e.g. antioxidant, etc., may be added thereto as necessary. The calcitonin may be added by mixing with an oily base or a water-soluble base or injecting an aqueous solution of calcitonin into a solid oily base in the hollow form to give the aimed composition for rectal administration.
