Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To produce cast iron having excellent strength and fatigue resistance and good castability by chilling the surface of flake graphite cast iron and then executing austempering treatment to the matrix under the specific condition. CONSTITUTION:The surface of flake graphite cast iron is chilled. The chilling work is executed by chiller or high density energy. After chilling work, it is kept at 870-1,100 deg.C for 30min or more to precipitate agglomerated graphite on the chilled surface. In succession, it is rapidly cooled at 200-400 deg.C and temp. kept for 10min or more. By this austempering treatment, the surface part of the flake graphite cast iron is changed into agglomerated graphite, and its matrix is changed into bainite and austenite structures. By this treatment, its strength and fatigue resistance are improved and cast iron having excellent castability is produced at low cost.
