Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To enable the treatment of a large amount of pitch fiber in high efficiency without causing thermal run away, fusion and uneven carbonization, by filling pitch fibers in a container and heating the container as a whole at a required temperature while passing a treating gas through the container under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Pitch fibers to be treated are filled in an inner vessel 10a and closed to form a closed container 10, which is placed in a furnace. Gas for infusibilization and carbonization treatment is introduced through an inlet port 30 of an outer vessel 10b, passed downward through an annular channel 32, introduced through a lower straightening plate 24 into inner vessel 10a, passed through the gap between the filled pitch fibers and discharge through an upper straightening plate 26.
