SEALED BATTERY AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To improve high rate pulse discharge performance and to stabilize production process by arranging a circular insulating layer between the periphery of a separator and that of an electrolyte retention material. CONSTITUTION:A circular insulating layer 8 made of pitch or the like is arranged between the periphery of a separator 3 and that of an electrolyte retention material 4. Thereeby, a somewhat excess amount of electrolyte is absorbed in the separator 3 and the electrolyte retention material 4 and the splash out of the electrolyte in battery assembly is prevented to stabilize battery performance. Since the insulating layer 8 increases adhesion of the separator 3 and the electrolyte retention material 4, the floating out of these materials from a positive case 1 resulting their deformation caused by environmental humidity in battery assembly can be eliminated. Thereby, production process is stabilized.
