Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain high encoding efficiency, by adopting an encoding system in which an MDPCM(modified difference) encoding, and a chain encoding are combined. CONSTITUTION:At a sampling processing part 3, a relative coordinate for the sampling point of an A/D-converted coordinate at the start, the termination, and just before of a stroke is found by the continuity of a pen, and when a size exceeds the size regulated in advance, a mode is set as an MDPCM mode that performs an encoding 17 by an absolute coordinate, and when the size is not the one to exceed the regulated size, the mode is set as a chain encoding mode that performs a differential chain encoding 13. Thus, an ecnoding efficiency can be improved by expressing a small value of differential coordinate as a non-regulated length code, and encoding the differential coordinate exceeding a regulated range by the absolute coordinate.
