Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To obtain a crosslinked product with both high strength and modulus outstanding in heat resistance, solvent resistance and dimensional stability, by crosslinking an ultra-high-molecular weight polyethylene having double bond prepared by copolymerization between ethylele and diene compound in the presence of a specific catalyst under specified polymerization conditions. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of a catalytic system consisting of (A) a solid catalytic component containing essentially Mg, Ti, and/or V (e.g. prepared by carrying Ti and/or V compound on a Mg-contg. inorganic solid compound) and (B) an organometallic compound, a diene compound and ethylene are copolymerized so that the molar ratio of the diene compound to the ethylene falls >=0.5(pref. >=1.0) and the molar ratio of the Ti an/or V in said catalytic component to the diene compound falls >=1.5X10 (pref. >=2.0X10), thus obtaining an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with an intrinsic viscosity >=5 (pref. 0-30)dl/g in the form of a decalin solution at 135 deg.C. This crosslinking can be performed with a small quantity of organic peroxide or a low level irradiation of electron beams. |
