PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a mark read in facsimile reception by providing a mark field and a parity-checking mark field on a mark sheet. CONSTITUTION:A numeral that represents the number of marks entered into the mark field on a mark sheet is entered into a mark field for parity checking. Information on this mark sheet 101 is transmitted via facsimile transmitter 301 and a facsimile signal is received by receiving circuit 302. Next, mark discriminating circuit 306 discriminates the existence of marks entered into two fields on the basis of the facsimile signal and supplies the results to parity checking circuit 307. Then, checking circuit 307 counts the number of entered marks to discriminate whether this count value agrees with the numeral entered in the checking mark field or not. Thus, whether a mark read is carried out with accuracy or not is discriminated, so that the reliability is improved.
