DATA SAVING AND RESTORING SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To lighten the load of a host computer by making the saving and restoring process of a secondary storage medium by a secondary memory device having incorporated secondary storage medium for saving and restoring together with a saving and restoring program by executing the saving and restoring program independently from a host computer by a command from the host computer. CONSTITUTION:When the starting command 100 of the saving and restoring program 22 is given on the saving of whole volume of a secondary storage medium 23 from the host computer 1, the start command analyzing means 25 of a secondary memory device 2 analyzes the content of the command, the saving and restoring program saves the content of the relevant volume to a secondary storage medium 21 for saving and restoring. When the execution of shunting process is completed, the secondary memory device 2 sends out an execution completion information 110 on processing according to the starting command 100 to the host computer 1. Similarly, the saving and restoring program 22 restores the content of the relevant volume from the secondary storage medium 21 for saving and restoring on the secondary storage medium 23.
