Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polyester with low content of acetaldehyde, outstanding in moldability and transparency, suitable for containers for foods, drugs, cosmetics, etc., by carrying out solid phase polymerization of the prepolymer in two separate stages. CONSTITUTION:First, a prepolymer with an intrinsic viscosity >=0.4 leading to the final polyester with ethylene terephthalate unit accounting for >=80mol%, is heated to >=140 deg.C to effect precrystallization under forced agitation. Following that, a solid phase polymerization at 210-240 deg.C is carried out so that the first stage is performed at 15-50mmHg for >=5hr and the second stage at =3hr in such a manner that the total solid phase polymerization time falls between 8 and 35hr, thus obtaining the objective polyester with an intrinsic viscosity 0.6-1.2.
