Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides device tensioning the chains for driving the steps of a passenger conveyor which is provided with wheels (8) provided with rubber-based elastic bodies (8) on the peripheral surfaces thereof having a smaller width than the inner width of the link plates (17) of the step-driving chains (4) so that the chain rollers (18) of the step-driving chains (4) are received by the rubber-based elastic bodies (9), whereby a shock absorbing effect can be obtained by a simple configuration.
