Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To provide steering rack which reduces the occurrence of heat treatment strain, by a method wherein a hardening layer is formed on the back part of a tooth part of the steering rack to increase the degree of reinforcement. CONSTITUTION:In a steering rack 1, having a tooth part hardening layer 2 formed by high frequency hardening, an induction coil 9 having an approximately flat surface is positioned facing the back of the steering rack such that its flat surface is extended through a steering rack axis O and at right angles with a surface P3 inclined at an angle theta=20 deg. in an upward direction during mounting of a car body from a surface P2 extending at right angles with a tooth bottom part P1. The steering rack 1 is securely held by means of electrodes 7 and 8 and a holding member 10, and the back part is heated to a given temperature. A coolant is injected through pores 11 of the induction coil 9 against the heated part for cooling to form a back part hardening layer. |
