PRODUCTION OF CHROME-CONTAINING COKE

PURPOSE:To obtain chrome-contg. coke with a reduced amt. of consumed coke, excellent heat economy and productivity, by blending a chrome ore in a powdery form and a particular reaction promoter with a raw material for production of coke and carbonizing the blend. CONSTITUTION:A raw material (A) for production of coke is blended with 45wt% or more chrome ore (B) in a powdery form from which coarse grains has been removed by sieving or pulverization and 0.1wt% or more at least one reaction promoter (C) selected from among an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate and borate of an alkali metal, an oxide, hydroxide and carbonate of boron and a fluoride of an alkaline earth metal to obtain a blend. Optionally, according to need, the blend is further blended with a binder such as PVA and molded into a shaped article. The blend or shaped article is put into a coke oven and heated at, e.g., 1,150-1,200 deg.C so as to effect reduction of the chrome component to a total conversion to metal of about 50%. Thus, the desired chrome-contg. coke is obtd.
