PURPOSE:To provide a printer reduced in power consumption for driving a movable guide and capable of being easily reduced in size, by a system wherein movement of a movable guide is inhibited by a stopper mechanism on the basis of the moment a specified position of the movable guide is detected by a sensor, and an intermittent transmission member is moved in an excess of a predetermined amount against a spring member for absorbing an excess moving amount. CONSTITUTION:When printing information is inputted through keys and the kind of a medium is set, a medium intake sensor 44 is turned ON. With an execution key 42 depressed, a pulse motor 20 is rotated, and a turnable member 23 is turned. When the turnable member 23 comes off a light-shielding position of a sensor 28, this moment is used as a basis on which a driving motor 20 for a movable guide 3 is rotated by a predetermined number of pulses. The number of pulses is set to be larger, by a predetermined number, than the number of pulses required for bringing the turnable member 23 into contact with a stopper member 35a, an excess of turning amount of an intermediate transmission member 24 is absorbed by an elongation of a spring 34a, and a rightward holding force is exerted on the guide 3. A feeding mechanism 6 is operated to feed a sheet of paper 4 to the position of a printing head 1 and a platen 2, and when the sheet reaches a predetermined position, a medium-feeding motor 43 is stopped.
