MANUFACTURE OF CARBON FIBER SPINNING PITCH

PURPOSE:To manufacture carbon fiber spinning pitch having an excellent spinnability and suited to produce a carbon fiber having a high mechanical strength and a high modulus of elasticity, by forcibly developing pitch as a liq. film under reduced pressure before the supply thereof to a spinning apparatus so as to effectively remove low-boiling gas components contained therein. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus 1 for removing low-boiling gas component is kept at reduced pressure. The pitch in a molten state before the supply into a spinning apparatus is fed through a pitch introduction tube 2 to around the center of a rotating plate 3 under rotation. The pitch is developed on the plate 3 as a liq. film by action of centrifugal force, and scattered in a spray form from the periphery of the plate 3. The pitch sprayed then flows down the inside wall of the apparatus 1, and discharged out of the apparatus through a pitch outlet 4. At that time, the low-boiling gas components contained in the pitch are separated. The low-boiling gas components are removed through a low- boiling gas component outlet 5 by the use of a vacuum pump, etc. The pitch coming out of the pitch outlet 4 is fed to a spinning apparatus through a gear pump.
