MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To make possible the recording and reproduction on the circumference of an FD having a specific diameter by using said FD and magnetizing the same in the thickness direction by using a magnetic head fixed relative to the rotating center of the FD. CONSTITUTION:The FD11 is formed by sputtering 'Permalloy(R)' 16 and Co-Cr layer 17 on a base 15 consisting of polyethylene terephthalate and the vertical magnetic head 12 contacts therewith to magnetize the FD11 in the thickness direction. The FD11 sized 2 inches is used and the recording band 13 provided on the circumference is just one which is positioned at 20mm from the rotating center and is of 2mm width. The head 12 is so fixed that the main magnetic pole 18 consisting of amorphous Co-Zn-Nb and having 2mm width is positioned on the band 13. The head makes recording and reproduction on the FD11 which is rotated by an S motor 14. Since at St motor is not used, the need for the measure against leakage flux is eliminated and the small-sized, lightweight and low-cost magnetic recording and reproducing device is obtd.
