Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To form a good film without heating a chemical converting liq. for a zinc phosphate film for pretreatment before electrodeposition coating of a ferrous material by incorporating tervalent iron ions at a specific ratio into said liquid and maintaining the chemical converting liquid and specific pH. CONSTITUTION:The tervalent iron ions are incorporated at >=100ppm as a chemical conversion accelerator in the presence of nitrite ions to be the above- mentioned liquid which is normally used, then the pH of said liquid is maintained within the range expessed by the formula, by which the good zinc phosphate film for pretreatment before electrodeposition coating is formed on the surface of the ferrous material without heating of the chemical converting liquid. In the formula, y: the pH value of the chemical converting liquid for the zinc phosphate film, X: the value of the zinc iron concn. (g/l) in the chemical converting liquid for the zinc phosphate. The concn. of the zinc ions in the chemical converting film is preferably about 0.5-2.0g/l. The above-mentioned treating method is preferably any one among spray method, dip method, spray- dip method, half-dip method, dip spray method and intermittent spray method.
