PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To produce magnetic recording media excellent in surface performance with high productivity by pressing the surface to be polished of a web formed by a coating process and having a magnetic layer to an elastic roll via a polishing tape and also pressed the opposite side of the web to the roll from a groove by spraying the compressed air from a cylindrical matter. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic film is applied on the primary surface of a base film and dried to obtain a web-shaped magnetic film 1. This film 1 is driven between a supply roll 2 and a take-up roll 3 and at the same time pressed to an elastic roll 5 via a polishing tape 8. Then the compressed air is sprayed to the film 1 by a compressor 7 through an air spray groove formed to a cylindrical matter 6 having its axial core coincident with the axial core of the roll 5. Thus the film 1 is pressed to the tape 8. Then the film 1 and the tape 8 are driven in the directions opposite to each other. At the same time, the tape 8 is oscillated in the width direction of the film 1 as shown by the solid and dotted lines. Thus the primary surface of the film 1 is polished.
