SPINNING OF CARBON FIBER

PURPOSE:To produce the titled fiber having high strength and quality, by introducing molten precursor pitch into a pressurizing part of a spinning apparatus, keeping under high pressure to dissolve bubbles into the pitch, and extruding and spinning the pitch, thereby removing fine bubbles in high efficiency and enabling stable and continuous spinning of the pitch. CONSTITUTION:In the production of carbon fiber by the melt-spinning, infusibilization, carbonization, or further graphitization of a precursor pitch, the precursor pitch is melted by heating in the melter 1, introduced into the pressurizing part 3 of a spinning apparatus with a gear pump 2, and maintained under a high pressure of >=50kg/cm to dissolve fine bubbles into the pitch. Thereafter, the precursor pitch is transferred to the nozzle header 5 with the gear pump 4 attached to the downstream side of the pressurizing part 3, extruded through the nozzle 6 to effect the melt-spinning, collected with the collector 7, and wound around the bobbin 8. The produced fiber is infusibilized and carbonized to obtain the objective carbon fiber.
