COMPOSITE CARBON MATERIAL FOR FUEL CELL

PURPOSE:To suppress decrease in power generation efficiency caused by heat loss and resistance heat generation by stacking a nonpermeable carbon plate between a porous carbon plate having fuel supply passages and a porous carbon plate having oxidizing agent supply passages, and bonding them with carbon material. CONSTITUTION:A nonpermeable carbon plate 15 is placed between a porous carbon plate 12 acting as an electrode and having fuel supply passages 11 and a porous carbon plate 14 acting as an electrode having oxidizing agent supply passages 13. The porous carbon plates and the nonpermeable carbon plate are bonded together with carbon adhesive. Carbonized material of thermoplastic material such as pitch or tar and thermosetting material such as phenol resin or furan resin is preferable as the carbon adhesive. Solution or emulsion of noncarbonized adhesive material is applied on the surfaces or the surface of the porous carbon plate and/or the nonpermeable carbon plate, and the coated plates are stacked, then adhesive material is carbonized.
