DENTIFRICE COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:An inexpensive dentifrice composition having improved stability with time, keeping transparency for a long period, having a good feeling in use, obtained by using specific amorphous polishing silica having large specific surface area by water vapor adsorption than that by N2 adsorption, as a polishing agent. CONSTITUTION:Amorphous polishing silica having 5-100m /g specific surface area by BET method of N2 adsorpotion method, and 100-400m /g specific surface area by BET method of water vapor adsorption method is used as a polishing agent for a dentifrice composition. An existing silica polishing agent has approximately the same specific surface area by N2 adsorption method as that by water vapor adsorption method, and lacks in stability with time. The silica of this invention has larger specific surface area by water vapor adsorption than that by N2 adsorption method (preferably ratio of 2-30), and improved stability with time, and causes slightly variability in refractive index even after long-period preservation. Consequently, a transparent dentifrice having improved transparency, good feeling in use and improved utility can be obtained inexpensively.
