Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To eliminate the cracking of the refractory material for side dams and the leakage of a molten metal and to execute casting for a long period by pressing the side dams formed by compounding two kinds of the refractory materials to both end faces of two water-cooled drums which rotate oppositely from each other. CONSTITUTION:The composite refractory material composed of boron nitride and silicon nitride is used as, for example, the side dams 2, 2' for sealing at both ends of the water-cooled casting drums 1, 1'. The refractory material of the side dams is heated to a high temp. in the initial period of casting. A large thermal strain is generated in the refractroy material when the side dams are pressed to the end faces of the drums 1, 1'. The silicon nitride behind the same does not crack as the borom nitride acts as thermal resistance. On the other hand, the drum is thermally deformed and clearances are generated between the drum ends and the side dams when casting is started but the boron nitride is soft and therefore the leakage of the molten metal is obviated. The long-period stable casting is made possible by the above-mentioned device. |
