Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To produce a plate single crystal having improved accuracy and workability, by growing the single crystal in a state of reduced distance between movable walls in a mold, and enlarging gradually the distance between the movable walls. CONSTITUTION:A hot water supply tube 4 and mold 5 are heated to a temperature above the solidifying point of a casting material by a heater 20, and a dummy bar 12 is set in the mold 5 at the same time. A pushing bar 3 is lowered into a heating furnace 1 containing the molten casting material in the state of reduced distance of a pair of movable walls 16. The casting material is then passed through the hot water supply tube 4 and filled in the mold 5. Waster is then sprinkled from a cooling device 11 to cool the dummy bar 12, and pinch rolls 13 are rotated and driven at the same time to start the casting. The dummy bar 12 is then pulled out to grow single crystals. After the lapse of a given time, a motor 10 is started to enlarge gradually the distance between the movable walls 16 to a given width while keeping the state of the single crystals and cast continuously the single crystals.
