COAL COMBUSTION METHOD

PURPOSE:To reduce a volume of NOx and improve a characteristic of combustion by a method wherein either sodium or its compound is added to the coal to be ignited and then they are ignited. CONSTITUTION:Sodium-adding device 13 for use in supplying sodium is arranged in a coal-supplying passage 12 extending from a metering mill 4 to a mill 5. Sodium-adding device 13 is composed of a sodium hopper 15 for storing either powder or sodium of water solution 14 and a sodium-supplying device 16 for feeding the required amount of sodium 14 to said coal-supplying passage 12 below the sodium hopper 15 and mixing them. With the foregoing arrangement, the sodium mixed with the coal generates a reducing reaction of NOx when ignited and enables a combustion of coal to be performed at low temperature, with the result that both a reduction of NOx and improvement of characteristic of combustion which are incompatible with each other during combustion of the coal can be carried out.
