Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To simply bond an electrode catalyst layer to an ion exchange membrane with good adhesion using no binder, by forming the layer of a metal derived by the pyrolytic reduction of a moble metal salt on the surface of the ion exchange membrane. CONSTITUTION:A solution of the noble metal salt of chloroplatinic acid or suchlike in methanol or the like is applied to the at least one surface of the ion exchange membrane for electrolysis of an aqueous solution of in particular an alkali metal halide. The solvent of the coated membrane is dried under reduced pressure. However, insufficient drying results in deterioration in adhesion between the membrane and the electrode catalyst layer. Subsequently, the noble metal salt on the membrane is pyrolyzed in an reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen at a temperature of a commencing temperature for the pyrolytic reduction of the noble metal salt or higher and of the deterioration temperature of the ion exchange membrane or lower. Thus, the ion exchange membrane-electrode catalyst layer bonded body is obtained. The several times repetition of the above-mentioned operation can impart sufficient adhesion and durability to the bonded body. |
