An alkaline earth element, such as Ba, Sr or Ca, utilized as an A kind ion has a small work function due to the atomic structure of the element and, moreover, the perovskite oxide that contains the alkaline earth element has a strong resistance to a sputtering in a discharge as a property common to oxides.
