LEATHER WRAPPED STEERING WHEEL AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PURPOSE:To make it possible to eliminate the necessity of sewing a leather cylinder, by covering a ring section of a steering wheel with a leather cylinder at a predetermined position in the ring section, simultaneously with the forming of the ring section from resin. CONSTITUTION:A second support rod 8 is fixed to the section between both ends of a reinforcing member having ring-like reinforcing parts 6 at both ends of a first support rod 5. Further, a sheet-like leather member 2c is bonded at one end edge section 2a to the first support rod 5 and at the other end edge section 2b to the second support rod 8 to set the leather member 2c to the reinforcing member 7. Then the ring section 2a of a metal core 3 formed in a ring-like shape is inserted into each cylinder 2 through a slit 9. Then, each cylinder 2 is entirely covered with a pair of upper and lower positioning intermediate cams 10, and the positioning came 10 and the metal core 3 are fitted in a pair of upper and lower dies 11, 12. Then, liquidas foamable polyurethane resin is charged under pressure into the dies 11, 12, thereby a steering wheel may be manufactured by a reactive extrusion molding process.
