TETRAHYDROFURAN FOR LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of noise and drift by bringing tetrahydrofuran (THF) into contact with zeolite and adsorbing the dissolved material which has UV absorption and is included in THF to the zeolite thereby removing the same. CONSTITUTION:For example, 5g zeolite consisting of molecular sieve 13X(A) having about 9Angstrom effective gap diameter and Zeolite F-9(B) is added to 100ml THF in a brown colored narrow-mounted bottle, the inside of which is replaced with gaseous argon. The zeolite is then rested at a room temp. for 46hr. A trace amt. of the dissolved material which has UV absorption and is included in the THF is adsorbed by the zeolite and the absorbancy of the THF decreased when the UV absorption of the THF is measured. The noise and drift occurring in the trace dissolved material which has the UV absorption and is included in the THF are entirely eliminated if such THF is used for a liquid chromatography. The stable base line is thus obtd.
