ROLLING METHOD FOR STEEL STRIP TO DECREASE EDGE DROP

PURPOSE:To decrease edge drops by providing a recessed circumferential groove to the middle in the convergently ground area of a work roll and executing the shift rolling in which the circumferential groove is made coincident with the transverse end of a material to be rolled. CONSTITUTION:The single trapezoidal-shaped work roll 1 is formed with the convergently ground area 4 on at least one end side of a roll body 3. The recessed circumferential groove 5 is provided to the middle of the area 4. A pair of work rolls 1 are alternately disposed with respect to the circumferential grooves 5, 5 and are incorporated into a rolling mill which permits roll shifting. The shift of the rolls 1 is set by disposing the rolls in such a manner that the transverse ends of the material to be rolled coincide with the grooves 5, 5. Since the material 2 to be rolled is rolled by the work rolls 1 provided with the circumferential grooves 5, 5, the edge drops near the transverse end faces of the rolled product are considerably decreased.
