Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To make possible the formation of a metallic ingot having no thickened segregation zone with good workability at a high yield by removing the upper part of a molten steel at the point of the time when the molten steel poured into a casting mold solidifies from below and the solidification of the molten steel arrives at a prescribed position. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 11 is poured into the casting mold 7 to the height taking the thickness in the upper part 11a of the molten steel 11 to be removed into consideration. The molten steel 11 solidifies from below and when the solidification of the steel 11 arrives at the position of the horizontal plane passing the bottom end of an aperture 10a a through-hole 10 to the inside surface of the mold 7, the part of a heat insulating material 9 covering the aperture 10a of the hold 10 is opened. The upper part 11a of the molten steel 11 upper than the position of the horizontal plane is discharged from the inside of the mold 7. Then the steel ingot having no thickened segregation zone of carbon, etc. remains in the mold 7.
