Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To extend a service life of the titled element in a repeating operation of a coloring and a decoloring, and to improve a responsiveness of the titled element by providing an electrode layer, an electrochromic layer and an electrolyte layer generating a cation by irradiating a light. CONSTITUTION:The transparent electroconductive layer 3 is formed on the electrode substrate 2, the electrochromic layer 4 (TiO2 type, WO2) is provided on the substrate 2, and the electrolyte layer 5 is provided on the substrate 4. The electroconductive film 6 and the electrode substrate 7 are provided on the layer 5 in order. The electro lyte layer 5 comprises a substance releasing the cation such as H and Li by irradiat ing light. The substance is a sort of the photodecomposible electrolyte. Onium salts having AsF6 and SbF6 or onium salt of a heteropolyacid are used as a pair ion. Sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid are used together with the onium salt. When the light coming from a mercury lamp 9 is irradiated to the titled element 1, the cation is released from the electrolyte layer, thereby coloring the electrochromic layer 4. When the voltage is applied to the titled element, the decoloring occurs. As the specific electrolyte layer is provided on the element, the good responsiveness of the coloring and the decoloring is obtd. and the service life of the element is extended.
