BILLET CONSTRUCTION FOR HOT EXTRUSION

PURPOSE:To separate automatically a dummy part from an extruded formed product by providing a pad consisting of inorganic oxide to the rear end, opposite to an extrusion ram for a billet of stock to be worked, to perform hot extrusion press work. CONSTITUTION:A billet, formed by covering a stock 2 to be worked, consisting of a hard-to-work material such as 'Sendust(R)' alloy, by an outer covering cylinder 1 and sealing the stock 2 by welding 4 a tail plug 3 to its open end, is charged into the container of an extrusion press by heating it to a prescribed temperature, and a pad 8 consisting of inorganic oxide such as MgO, SiO2 is provided to the position where the rear of billet is opposite to an extrusion ram 7. The stock 2 is hot press-extruded from a die 5 by the ram 7. A formed body 11 is automatically separated from a dummy part (discard part) 10 through the pad 8, to eliminate cutting work thereby improving operating efficiency and productivity.
