SUPPOSITORY

PURPOSE:To provide a suppository composed of a center core and an outer shell covering the outer circumference of said center core, wherein said outer shell is composed of a base obtained by dissolving a specific pH-dependent enteric polymer in a drug component and a polyalkylene glycol which is solid at room temperature. CONSTITUTION:The objective suppository is composed of a center core and an outer shell covering the circumference of said center core and the outer shell is composed of a base consisting of polyalkylene glycol which is solid at room temperature (e.g. polyethylene glycol), a drug component (preferably a drug hardly soluble in water and soluble in said polyalkylene glycol, e.g. nifedipin, indomethacin, etc.) and a pH-dependent enteric polymer (soluble in said polyalkylene glycol; soluble in water at 5-7pH; hardly water-soluble compared with said polyalkylene glycol) dissolved in the above polyalkylene glycol and the drug component. The amount of the enteric polymer is 3-30wt% of the whole composition. The rate of release of the drug component can be controlled easily by the use of the base and the base has both rapid releasing activity and slow releasing activity to a drug.
