Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To easily control a swirl, by connecting an intake swirl controlling intake passage, which interposes an intake swirl control valve, with a main intake passage, connected with a combustion chamber through a helical port, and actuating said valve to be closed in a resonating condition of a resonance system. CONSTITUTION:A direct-injection Diesel engine, connecting with its combustion chamber 1 a main intake passage (the first intake passage) 3 through a helical port 2, again connects with the main intake passage 3 in the vicinity of the helical port 2 a subintake passage (intake swirl controlling second intake passage) 4 branching from the main intake passage 3 in the upstream side. The engine, forming pocket parts 4a, 4b on the half way of the subintake passage 4, slidably interposes a valve unit 50A of an intake swirl control valve 50 in the pocket part 4a. While the main intake passage 3, forming an opening, here mounts a diaphragm 7, in this way, the engine, connecting one end of a rod 8 with the center of the diaphragm 7 while the other end with said valve unit 50A, constitutes a resonance system R.
